Black Necked Stork
Fauna and Flora at QMag's mine site with Dr John McGrath Part 4: Black Necked Stork

The black-necked stork (jabiru) is an icon of the Northern Australia wetlands and tourism.
Fortunately, you don't have to go to Kakadu to see one. Here at QMAG's Kunwarara KG2 mine site just north of Rockhampton our mine pits and wetlands attract these giant birds searching for a meal of fish, small crustaceans or amphibians.
Jabirus are Australia's only stork, and not to be confused with the Jabiru of South America. At 1.4m tall and with a wingspan of 2m seeing a pair in a giant nest up a tree or even just seeing them fly past is awe-inspiring so we here at QMAG count ourselves lucky.
