We lit up our Shaft Kiln No. 3
Our QMAG production team in Parkhurst / Queensland lit up our Shaft Kiln No. 3 for Deadburned Magnesia production after a scheduled shutdown for maintenance and repairs.
We still use burning charcoal to ignite the natural gas combustion in the shaft kiln material bed because it is still the safest way to do it. And because it looks just fascinating, a small tribe of QMAG employees always gathers to witness the start of another year of uninterrupted kiln operation.

From our Ore to Your Door - Episode 8 - In Pit Screening
QMAG currently mines 4 million tonnes of ore per year, from six to eight different pits.
We choose pits based on their magnesite content and contaminant concentrations. There are always at least two pits mined simultaneously to provide the Parkhurst plant with enough material at suitable quality to support our full suite of products.
